All Board programs and services are licensed by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services.
Legislation to create the Community Services Boards was enacted by the Virginia General Assembly under Chapter 10 of Title 37.1, of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended.
Established in 1972, the Southside Community Services Board provides mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services to the residents of Southside Virginia in Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick Counties.
The Board of Directors meets the third Tuesday of every month (excluding July and August). Inquiries about the Board of Directors can be made by calling the Board's Executive Director

Membership on the Board of Directors is provided through appointment as follows:

Funding for the many services provided through the Board comes from the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Federal Government, local governments and from fees collected from third party payors and consumers
who are self pay.
Southside Community Services Board services are provided
at program sites or at consumer's resident located throughout the three-county catchments area.
