Southside Community Services Board (SCS) was established in 1972 by the counties of Brunswick, Halifax and Mecklenburg as a public entity to assure that community-based services are made available to children, adults and families with mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disability needs. Our programs and services are licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, and funded through federal, state, and county appropriations as well as health insurance companies. SCS employs 250 staff within 18 service facilities across its area of over 2,000 square miles and a total population of 86,500 citizens.
